Valentine’s Day started during the 3rd Century A.D. when two Ancient Romans, both named Valentine, who were executed by the emperor on February 14 of different years. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of Valentine’s Day. The celebration was called the Feast of Lupercalia. The holiday did not become romantic until 1382, when Geoffrey Chaucer wrote his poem Parliament of Foules. It is this poem that was linked to romantic love.
