• Happy Memorial Day!  Today we celebrate the honor and remembrance of the men and women who have served our country.  It is a day to reflect on those who protected us and kept us safe.

Since we are going through another difficult time, Covid-19, we can reflect even further. We can think of all the front-line workers who are sacrificing their health, working long hours, barely getting enough sleep each day for all of us. While it is not the same as war time, it is similar in the sense of the solemnness we are experiencing. We have too much time on our hands to think and reflect.  It is more important to think positive and hope for this to be over in the not too distant future. We can be more grateful than ever that we have the opportunity to be closer to our immediate family, that people for the most part are helping one another, that we have time to finally rest and relax a bit and catch up on much needed sleep.

Most of the U.S. is opening up this weekend.  A majority will try to go to the beach.  Only 50% will be allowed in.  Plan accordingly.  Treat people with kindness and respect. If you can’t get into the beach this time, there always is another day.  During the week is usually less crowded if you are able to go then. Always have a back up plan if you can’t get into the beach.  Jot down several parks in your area that you think won’t be very crowded.  Prepare a picnic lunch, pack a blanket, bring cards or a book to read.  While keeping in line with social distancing, you can still have a fun enjoyable day out. Think of things to catch up on outside of your home, such as gardening, running a few errands, the post office, etc.  I highly suggest you do these things slowly, so you don’t overwhelm yourself with too much at once.  Remember we have been home most of the time and our bodies and minds are not used to doing too much in a day.

We have a lot to look forward to during the summer months.  Let’s enjoy what we can and appreciate the things that we do have and the people who are in our lives.  Notice the beauty of spring and the warmth and sunshine this summer.  As you know, the weeks go by fast, so remember to savor each moment. Take lot’s of pictures for sharing with your friends/family and for your memories.

Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day!
