When I was about 20 years old and in college, I found it fun being on campus, but at the same time very difficult with trying to be social and keeping up with my studies. It was a difficult balance to keep going. My stress levels for the most part were quite high and due to that fact, my health got a bit worse. I ended up getting mononucleosis and had to drop my major due to being out of school for over a month. This was very upsetting to me at the time. I had to learn I could still succeed even with another major, which did happen in the end. I also remember I was put on medication for headaches and it caused me to have boils on my face for about 2 years. This really bothered me, since I was very self conscious of the way I looked and to have a few large boils on my face was devastating. It ended up leaving acne scars on my face. I continued to have some acne on my face and back for quite a few years. I took more medication to help with my acne.
A few years later, I noticed I was bloated often, no matter what I ate and wasn’t sure why. I went to traditional doctors, as well as holistic doctors and no one knew what it was or what caused my bloating. This bloating still occurs today, but a lesser degree. I had learned that most of the medication I took, had caused something called “leaky gut” also known as “intestinal permeability”. I had to change my diet to stop my gut from making small holes in it. I still today have to make adjustments every so often. I also had something called “chronic fatigue syndrome” where I was very tired most days of the week.
When I was 30, I gave birth to my first child. Little did I know that all the symptoms I had, can affect me during and after childbirth and can be passed onto the baby. So sure enough, my body reacted soon after giving birth. The birth took out my energy, my body ached all over, and I was bedridden for 3 months after birth. I was barely able to care for my child at the time, but had no choice. I rested as often as I could.
After realizing my health was declining at a young age, I decided to educate myself as much as I could. I read articles consistently, took out books at the library, I went to lectures and learned a great deal about health. I also decided to shop in a health food store, where the manager guided me and taught me a healthier way than the traditional supermarket and to this day, I never went back!
